I'm cleaning off my desk today and found the following quote:

"It is not a bad thing to have a house that shows it has been lived in for some time, and that they occoupants have enjoyed their stay."

Winslow Tudor

Honestly, I strive to have a house that has that lived in look. I think it makes it cozier. Items collected here and there, not always perfect, scratches on the floor from where the kids drove their Matchbox cars, faint stains on the carpet as testament to hot chocolate enjoyed in front of the fire, a little cat hair, piles of books yet to be read, the lingering odor of baked muffins... To me these all show that a family lives in this place, not merely exists.

I lOVE that quote. To me a lived in looking house is a happy home :)

I agree.

My goal is to make our everyday, functional items beautiful--so the house still looks pretty, even in disarray.

I just found your blog, and I'm excited about your "living gently" ideas!

Wow, I love that sentiment. Not Winslow's (although it's good too), but true and yet easy to forget for us over the top neatniks.

I love this quote too! It is a good reminder when there are many folks who are worried about and striving to somehow live inside a magazine photo. Homey, lived in, and loved is the style I'm after.
