Simple Living Quote

My kids and I just completed "The Pirate's Mixed-Up Voyage" by Margaret Mahy, and at the end was this quote:

"...the simple life is very difficult to come by. You see it far off, like Island One Thousand as it might be, but by the time you catch up with it, it's got all mixed up with a whole lot of other stuff."

So much wisdom from a children's book. So many people wish to be able to follow a prescribed path to simplicity, but they fail to realize that the path must be of their own making. No expert can make their life simpler. It is a path full of decisions and surrender. And ultimately it is different for each person.

You are so right! That's the thing about living a simple life. It has to be YOUR life, not your neighbor's, not your sister's, not your mother's, not Martha Stewart's. YOUR life is where you live your own simple life. It's going to look different for each one of us. There may be some common elements, but the everyday details must fit you and your family.
