At the Feeder

This is a Red-Bellied Woodpecker (the one with a speck of red on her head) that has been visiting our feeder the last couple of days. I'm pretty sure it is a female. She is huge. When she sits on the feeder her weight makes it go lopsided! This picture is a little blurry. I love feeding the birds and could (do actually) spend hours watching them.

Marianna, We moved into a new (old) house five days ago that backs up to a greenbelt and I am DYING to get a feeder up. I have seen several birds that I am unfamilair with. It will be fun to watch then from the kitchen window. I've got red-headed woodpeckers, but none like yours. Have a warm and happy Thanksgiving, my friend! Karin

I love Red-bellied woodpeckers too. We have had a few try to eat the squirrel's dried corn off the deck. The poor guy’s beak was so long he had a heck of a time picking it up. Do you have a set feeder? Ours love the suet, as do the Downey woodpeckers, Nuttall's woodpeckers, Hairy woodpeckers and nuthatches. We like he birds too - can you tell? =)

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Heather
